Restaurants With Separate Vegan Menus

When I went to Flores in Corte Madera and Fradelizio in Fairfax I was happy to discover that they both had a separate menu featuring vegan food. Now, though, thanks to this thoughtful article in VegNews, I question whether a separate vegan menu is helping or hurting the spread of veganism.  Vegan Menus May Be Hurting the Vegan Movement. Here’s How to Fix It. | VegNews

Millennium Restaurant Reopens

After the shocking news in May about Millennium's closing, June brought the good news of its return. Same place, new hours and new format (fixed price menu unless you eat at the bar). Tuesdays will be pizza night with Miyoko collaborating.  One of America’s Most Influential Vegan Restaurants Is Getting a Third Chance | VegNews   And here is the news from the restaurant itself: https://www.millenniumrestaurant.com/

Pigs, Laws, Cruelty, Morality

Ezra Klein in the New York Times writes about laws that aim to thwart voters' choices to protect pigs from the most horrific conditions on CAFOs. He points out the tradeoffs between efficiency (for farmers) and decency (for animals).  This is a vitally important essay.

By-catch and Other Miseries for Sea Animals

Another excellent opinion piece In the New York Times this summer called attention to the unspeakably cruel practices in the fishing industry.     https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/08/opinion/fishing-bottom-trawlers-seafood.html?unlocked_article_code=1.1VA.QzvO.9vXcAKu2O_ws&smid=em-share  To become better educated and to support all being who live in the sea, head to the wonderful not-for-profit FishFeel.org

Monarch Butterflies and Avocados

Thanks to the Center for Biological Diversity I learned about how the popularity of avocados is harming the habitat of Monarch butterflies. As usual, the Center for Biological Diversity makes it easy for us to help. We do not have to skip the guacamole, but we should send a letter or two.   Read more at:  https://www.biologicaldiversity.org/programs/population_and_sustainability/food-x/food-x-issue-57.html
