January 2026
Marin VEG

I wish you love and laughter, health and healing and every good blessing in the new year.  May we all have many moments of beauty, ease, kindness and gratutude - and may we notice them, savor them and celebrate them no matter what else is going on.

Inspired by Miyoko's Vision
As much as I loved Miyoko's butter and cheeses, I love even more her vision for a future company and food system in which maximizing profits is not the goal, but supporting the planet and people and feeding them sustainably is part of the mission. Thanks to VegNews for keeping us up to date with Miyoko news.  I am glad I subscribe to that wonderful and unique magazine that celebrates all things vegan.  I highly recommend this article (and a subscription, perhaps).

Grazing Myths
Two of my favorite not for profit organizations, The Center for Biological Diversity and A Well-Fed World, collaborated on a website that debunks popular myths about grazing. It's good to learn the truth to counter all the hype about "regenerative" farming.    https://grazingfacts.com/grazing-myths
Animal Gifts Not Ideal for Hungry People Dawn Moncrief, founder of A Well Fed World (awellfedworld.org) wrote an excellent opinion piece about organizations that encourage donors to give animals to families who are experiencing hunger. She contrasts those programs with Plants-4-Hunger, a plant based relief organization that is a project of A Well Fed World. In December the article was published by International Business Times and thus helped spread the word about effective and humane ways to feed the world. Read it and share it widely. Veganuary Since 2014 Veganuary has encouraged people to try vegan living for a month. Even if you are already on the road to veganism or if you are a long-time vegan, joining the challenge offers new recipes, tips, and support. I joined this year just to see the recipes. It's free and it's fun. https://veganuary.com/en-us/ Vegan Outreach Launches New Website The wonderful Vegan Outreach is best known for handing out fliers on college campuses and sponsoring the Vegan Chef Challenge in cities and counties across the country. They also have a vegan mentoring program and a 10 Weeks to Vegan program that includes one on one support, recipes, advice and more. Now the 10 Weeks to Vegan initiative has its own website. Check it out: Home - 10 Weeks to Vegan

Carbon Footprint of Vegan Diet
Last month I included news of this Oxford study, but VegOut magazine summarized it nicely, so I am including their article here.
