Marin VEG

Happy October!  New books from Miyoko Schinner and Dr. Michael Klaper are in the news this month, along with the Marin Vegan Chef Challenge, help for vegans in college, and more.  Thanks for reading.  Enjoy the rain!

Marin Vegan Chef Challenge
Throughout October
It's now! It's here!  It's time to try a new restaurant or revisit a favorite restaurant with new vegan menu options.  See what restaurants are participating and what new vegan menu items are on offer at https://veganchefchallenge.org/marin/   After you try a vegan option at one of these restaurants, return to the website to rate what you ate.   Many restaurants will add these new vegan dishes to their permanent menus if enough people vote favorably. The Marin IJ ran this story about the challenge: https://www.marinij.com/2025/09/23/marin-eateries-to-participate-in-vegan-chef-challenge/  This campaign ends on October 31, so plan an outing or two as soon as you can.

Miyoko's New Book
The Vegan Creamery

Fake Fur vs. Real Fur
Fake fur looks very real these days.  And some countries do not label the clothing they manufacture to indicate synthetic or animal fur in the trim.  It can be hard to tell whether a hood or lining is trimmed with real or fake fur. Thanks to reader Louise for sharing this short video that offers tips on how to determine which you are looking at.  https://tinyurl.com/bddb48z9

Eating Vegan in College
Thanks to the wonderful Food Empowerment Project, college students will have an easier time finding, advocating for and creating vegan meals on campus soon. We can help bring this invaluable booklet into print by contributing to FEP.  Learn more at foodispower.org/eating-vegan-in-college/

Halloween Chocolate Reminder
This is your yearly reminder to buy chocolate candy only from companies that are approved by The Food Empowerment Project.  FEP researches the source of chocolates to ensure that they don't come from countries that employ child labor and human slavery.
