Marin VEG Newsletter

A silly joke for Halloween: Why do ghosts like health food stores?  Because so much there is super natural.  Sorry.  I know it's a groaner.
May October bring you many opportunities to guffaw.

Millennium Celebrates 30 Year Anniversary
Congratulations to Eric Tucker and Alison Bagby on the 30th anniversary of Millennium restaurant.  Begun in San Francisco when Ann and Larry Wheat were co-owners, this spectacular vegan restaurant is still thriving and still delighting diners with creative, delicious, filling dinners, now in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland.  I visited Millennium a few months ago having not been there in years.  It was every bit as wonderful as I remembered (though I still pine for the Chocolate Almond Midnight dessert, a recipe for which is included in their cookbook, but which is no longer on the menu).

Halloween Chocolate
Even if chocolate is dairy free, it may not be cruelty free. The Food Empowerment Project does meticulous research to determine whether slave labor or child labor is an ingredient in countless brands of chocolate.  Before buying chocolate candy for Halloween - or any time - read this page from FEP and refer to its chocolate list when considering your purchase. Vegan implies nonharming; not  just for cows, but for farm workers as well.
