Marin VEG
August 2024

Put aside the name of the month and look at the lower case word: august.  It means inspiring reverence or admiration; majestic.  I savor the august presence of Redwood trees, especially on very hot days.  No need to go the the Sierra. Downtown Fairfax has a splendid grove in a park alongside Bolinas Road.  May you find august delights in surprising places this month.

Debunking the Myth of Sustainable and Humane Animal Agriculture
4-week Class Begins
Dr. Vasile Stanescu is teaching a four week course to shed light on the persistent myth of humane and sustainable animal agriculture. Greenwashing and humane washing are ubiquitous, and these classes will show us why they are dangerous, and how to recognize and respond to them.  The course is offered through the Arihanta Institute in partnership with Compassionate Living.  I urge you to look at Dr. Stanescu's  impressive credentials and the format of the course. The cost is $99.    https://www.arihantainstitute.org/course/1015-debunking-the-myth-of-sustainable-and-humane-animal-agriculture?utm_source=cl&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=hb&utm_content=1015

Update:
The good people at the Arihanta Institute and Compassionate Living are offering Marin VEG followers a 75% discount on
Dr. Stanescu's course on the myth of sustainable agriculture.  When signing up use the code DEBUNK75! to pay only $25 instead of $99.

Biological Age on Vegan Diet
There was lots of coverage in July of this aspect of the vegan twins study from a few months back.  Apparently, some biological markers of aging were shown to be thwarted after just eight weeks of eating a vegan diet.  Here  is one of many articles on the subject:

What About Road Kill? Wearing Fake Fur or Fake Leather?
Free On-line Talk on Gray Areas Of Vegan Ethics
Is it okay to eat eggs from a chicken living at an animal sanctuary?  How about a chicken sandwich found in a dumpster?  In this thought provoking talk, Professor Cheryl Abbate addresses these and other "gray areas" that often stymie vegans. The talk is free and  part of the Vegan Studies Initiative at the Arihanta Institute. Listen to the talk at  https://voices.arihantainstitute.org/series/voices_ethical?utm_source=cl&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=hb&utm_content=vivs0715
