October 2023

It's soup weather! Even though some warm days are still ahead, I've been wearing sweaters and a rain jacket and enjoying the colder temperatures.  I hope you stay well as the nights grow longer.  May you find more treats than tricks this October.

Ginny Messina on Vegans, Meat Fads, and Pseudoscience
As usual, The Vegan RD, Ginny Messina, is wise and precise.  I enjoyed this short essay about vegans and danger of exaggerating our arguments for going vegan. Here is a short excerpt: "This is the great thing about veganism: It rises above all the silly purist dietary arguments. . . . Veganism looks at food choices through a lens of respect, justice, and compassion."   Read the whole piece here:  https://www.theveganrd.com/2023/09/carnivore-diets-vegan-diets-and-pseudoscience/

Powerful Poem
Factory Farming Awareness Coalition has changed its name to New Roots Institute. A number of high school and college students who work with this terrific organization have written and recorded a short, empowering poem.  I hope you are as moved by it as I was.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEtKodwK8hY
