More rain is predicted for every day in April.  Not true; April Fool!  May any surprises this month be happy ones.  May we enjoy the streams, waterfalls, and reservoirs full of precious water.

Update on Miyoko's

No item in 30+ years had more responses than last month's piece about Miyoko being fired by the company she created.  Clearly, Miyoko is beloved by a huge community of supporters, me among them.  Since she was fired, Miyoko filed a counter lawsuit against the company.  Learn the details at https://breakthesilence.substack.com/p/miyoko-schinner-files-counter-lawsuit

Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs and Wear Cows
10th Anniversary Editon

First published in 2010, Why We Love Dogs… has become a seminal work and an international bestseller. It has also received endorsements from  Maneka Gandhi, Ezra Klein, and Peter Singer.  The 10th anniversary edition of the book features a new foreword by Yuval Noah Harari, updated content, and an afterword by Melanie.  There is also a new promotional video for the book. Watch it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnOG7wUgy4A

(Full disclosure: I represented Melanie Joy, the author of the book, when she was seeking a publisher.  I actually came out of retirement to do that because the book had such a strong impact on me.)

Hershey's Launches Vegan Reeses and Chocolate Bar
A vegan chocolate bar and Reeses peanut butter cups are now available from Hershey's.  You can read about it at this link, but don't get too excited.  Read the next piece about cruelty free chocolate.  https://vegnews.com/2023/3/hershey-vegan-Reeses-peanut-butter-cups-chocolate

Not All Vegan Food is Cruelty Free
As The Food Empowerment Project reminds us, not all vegan food is cruelty free.  Read the introduction to their Chocolate List here, and use the list whenever shopping for chocolate.

Palm Oil Also Causes Harm
Another example of vegan food that is not cruelty free is palm oil.  Found in a huge variety of foods and products, orangutans, native peoples, and rain forests are threatened by the ubiquitous use of this vegan oil.  Thanks to Louise G. for reminding me about this excellent website.  https://www.rainforest-rescue.org/topics/palm-oil
